Other observations
This is the first of at least three paintings painted at about this time all
of the same size. Another painting also shares the same name (painted in 1880)
but we have no image of it.
The green table cloth is a frequent feature in his paintings, although this
is only one with a red trim. The box on the floor also features in the "Treasured
Volume" painted in the following year. It is not clear who the lady is,
perhaps his mother in law?
