Other observations
This painting also features all five of the children. Edgar (now aged 8) is cutting the hair of Charles (age 2). Ruth (aged 5) is sitting holding a doll at the side with Oswald (now aged 7) talking to Edwin (age 4) behind her.
A barrel is featured to the rear of the painting and it is known that Harry's father Henry was a cooper by trade. Barrels or sections of them feature in several paintings. The ring on the floor in front of Edgar may also be part of a barrel.
It is quite possible that this painting and Busy Hours were sold together and
have remained as a set ever since.
