John BROOKER & Charlotte SIMMONDS were married at St Martin in the
Fields (1837 - the first year of the General Register Office) and had two
daughters
Charlotte 1.7.1838, King St Charlotte's father (William) was a Maltster but otherwise we know nothing
about her. (A Wm. Simmonds aged 9 from 3 Charles Place was buried at StMA
in 1847. Is this a nephew?) Sadly John committed suicide in 1841 ("Hanged
himself, Insane"). The family were then living at Gardeners Buildings,
on the site of what is now Barker's department store, and not far from
Charles Place. We cannot trace Charlotte after 1840. She doesn't appear
among the Brookers indexed in the 1851 census for Kensington town, Paddington,
Brompton, Fulham or Chelsea. There is no marriage record for either of
the daughters (under the name Brooker) in the period 1860-70 inclusive.
