The painting was auctioned on the same date as "The Archers 1894". It is possible that these were originally sold as a pair and stayed together until 1992.

Other observations

Ruth (now aged 12) is leading the games which feature on a toy barn and a set of about 10 animals including cows, horses and possibly camels. She has a girl friend visiting but the boys appear to be Oswald now aged 14, Edwin now aged 11 and Charles now aged 9.

The green table cloth in this paintings was an even more frequently painted item than the red table cloth in "The Archers 1894". The green table cloth also featured in "A Critical Moment 1889", "The Young Artists 1896", "The Young Kitemakers 1897", "Teatime 1897" and "Playing At School 1897".

Other common items include the warming pan laying on the hearth which can be seen hanging from the wall in "A Visit to the Sweet Shop 1897", "Household Chores 1901", "Homework 1908" and "The Young Aviators 1918".

The cone shaped barrel off the right edge of the painting also features in "Kitty's Tea Party 1892", "The Young Kitemakers 1897", "Firing The Salute 1900" and "The Children's Breakfast 1901"
